2019 Disabled Veteran Fly Fishing Event

Are you or is someone you know a wounded warrior who would be interested in a fly fishing experience at Philmont Scout Ranch in Northern New Mexico this fall?

Philmont Scout Ranch, Adaptive Adventures and other organizations are combining forces to host a fly fishing event in the Sangre de Cristo mountains this October— quiet streams, clear skies, cool nights, and golden Aspens. Our guides have many years’ experience organizing the well-known Philmont Fly Fishing Invitational as well as leading adventure sports outings (skiing, kayaking, rafting, etc) for Disabled Veterans.

This is a camping experience that has no access to power or cellphone service.

We are looking for six to seven people for this years event. Check-in is at the ranch in Cimarron, NM on Sunday afternoon. After an overnight stay in Base Camp, anglers will ride into the backcountry Monday morning for two nights of camping and fishing at one (or more) of Philmont’s many rustic cabins. After making new friends and telling lies about the ones that got away, participants will return to Base Camp Wednesday morning and then depart for home later that same day. All meals will be provided from dinner Sunday at the Porch to breakfast on Wednesday; though if you catch it and cook it, you’ll eat even better than planned.

All participants are responsible for their own transportation to and from Cimarron, NM. This is a remote location with no public transportation nearby. All participants will need access to their own vehicle or rental car.

You can expect it to be sunny but cool during the days, and cold at night. It’s even possible some higher parts of the ranch will have snow already or get it while you’re there. Participants are encouraged to bring personal items but organizers will supply camping and fishing gear.

Costs of the trip are paid for by private donations. If you have been accepted, you will hear from our organizers by September 15th. Unfortunately due to the overwhelming number of applications expected, we will not be able to contact everyone with regrets. If you are accepted and later need to cancel for any reason, please let us know as soon as possible so that we might fill your vacancy with another interested fisher from the waiting list.
