Description

Join us at Prospect Lake in Memorial Park, in the heart of Pikes Peak region, for a full day of dragon boat races. The world’s fastest growing water sport is just another reason to get outside and enjoy the local sights and attractions. The festival offers a unique racing experience with a beautiful scenic backdrop. Featuring the quintessential MLDB festival areas, such as Health and Wellness Village, Athletes’ Village, and Food Truck Bazaar, this event will give participants, new and experienced, a dragon boat experience with a Western flair.

Important Times:

All team members must report to Prospect Lake at Memorial Park no later than 06:30am on Saturday August 26th. We must finalize all paperwork before 7:15 for the race officials. Races will begin at 8am sharp and conclude at 4:00pm. We will provide breakfast, lunch and end of season dinner for all competitors and family. Races are not scheduled per our knowledge until after seed times are placed after each boat race heat. Based on results of each team, we will then know the following heats based on elimination of competition moving throughout the day.

Parking free at Memorial Park and is available throughout the venue. For best access to the festival grounds, it is recommended that participants park in the north or east side of the park.

What to Bring:

Please remember to bring:

  • water bottle
  • sunscreen
  • specific desired snacks, breakfast items, and water bottle
  • closed toe shoes
  • folding chair or blanket to lay/sit on during breaks and relaxation times

Be sure to wear closed toe shoes (running or other shoes that do not expose your foot). Per race rules, you will NOT be allowed on the boat with open toed shoes.

Please bring your Team Blue shirts (Blue AA DBT shirts with name space on them for past team members) as we will want to look like a true team...and know who each others names are. If you have not been issued a Team Blue shirt, you can pick it up at registration on Saturday morning along with your team assignment and event id wristband.

Race Timing:

Each Team will race at least 2 times, based on qualification heats and advancing to further stages. Please be prepared for a full day, as you now are an integral part of a kick-a$% team. You will be fed, hydrated and have time for relaxation in shade and 'quiet' as you wish to seek out. It is important that you are on time and ready to go, as 21 other people in each boat rely on your being ready and prepared to 'Battle With Your Paddle'.

Legs and Lungs: Event Volunteers Still Needed and Team Support

This is a very big event that will want to understand why Adaptive paddlers are whooping up on super healthy, non-adaptive 24 year old athletes, meaning that with so many of us, there are always ways to increase support amongst Team Blue. When we don't need logistic or chitter chatter support, we want to hear Team Blue chants and support while we're racing. Please do bring family and friends who are willing to lend support to the event. It takes a village!

Post Event Dinner and Season Finale:

We will end with a great vegetarian friendly dinner at Country Buffett. It is about the meeting location that can handle our group and time to break bread together and review some exciting news about winter, announce the winner of the TV, and more.
Immediately following the races! Bring your family and your hunger.

Location of Country Buffet: 801 Academy Blvd N, Colorado Springs, CO 80909
