Mission: Adaptive kayaking program allows individuals interested in beginning or resuming kayaking after an injury or disability to develop and/or practice the necessary physical, psychosocial and cognitive skills in a safe environment.

Vision: Adaptive kayaking program is directed toward achieving and maintaining optimal levels of independence, productivity, and well being, as well as enter/re-enter the mainstream of community life.

Description of Program: Participants meet with the CTRS and Adaptive Adventures staff individually to assess safety, kayaking abilities, endurance level, and proper fitting of equipment (kayak and paddle).  Small group treatment sessions will include discussions on benefits of exercise, motivational techniques (i.e. charting progress in time, distance), training and practice on kayaking skills and stroke progression, water etiquette, kayaking safety and dealing with emergencies. Kayaking groups will consist of learning about and engaging in kayaking opportunities in the home communities. The goal of the kayaking program is for each participant to be at a functionally independent level for participation in community kayaking.
